When you are feeling stuck or restricted in life, the Hanged Man invites you to inspect your situation from a new perspective. Open your arms to opportunity and growth, because something new is emerging... and you won't get a chance to see it unless you pay attention and allow it time and space.

Take the time to consider your next steps, knowing that the important things cannot be rushed ahead of their time. Your commitment may be tested, and you may need to seek help, but the sacrifices will pay off in the end.

Among five things for five people, Angel says There is nothing more precious than seeing peace on your face while you sleep.
... and Eddie replies with a gentle joke.

Jean has things to say to several people. Eddie makes a few guesses to narrow things down.

Annabel Lee also participates, and her first statement is You intimidate me, because I can imagine the person I would be in your shoes, but I think in mine you'd be better than I am.
... Eddie tries to reassure, but it falls flat.

Eddie did not realize that I'm fuckin' proud of you, man. on Gerry's list was meant for him, and is thrown off for a while when Gerry says so.

Sally thinks of Eddie as a guardian angel (not literally... we hope).

One of Sam's messages is Thank you. I swear I'll figure out how to pay you back.
.... so Eddie tells him to pay it forward.

[ follows a voluntary death with assistance by Lord Erik Osborne ]

The world fades out, dark and still. A breath out, and then --

A strange lurch forward, as if he's being grabbed, lifted -- and then Eddie is falling backward. Distant flecks of light become streaks of color in the dark, and the fall halts, sharp and sudden -- and he's flung to the side like a pinball whirling through a machine.

Eddie hasn't breathed in and he can't scream.

They can't quite forget and they can't quite remember...

But the grief remains, for grief is a matter of the heart and not the mind. Grief remains because love remains.

Bill has Audra -- she wasn't part of that first fight, but she looked into the deadlights same as Bill. They're marked the same with the same knowing. Mike has opportunity -- a clean slate, even later in life, is a wonderful thing. Finally freed from Derry, finally out of the darkness. Of course it's a bright future, even if he faces it alone for the moment. Ben and Beverly have each other -- their memories rearranged into a pretty patchwork, all to support the sweet tale of long separated childhood sweethearts finally finding one another nearly thirty years later.

And Richie... has two dead best friends that his heart can't forget and his head won't remember.

Richie also lives in Los Angeles and goes to parties with people rich and careless enough to supply any kind of vice.

A frequent topic of town chatter since Eddie had arrived was Ms. Dahlia Leeds's birthday gala. He had roughly half a month's notice and anything dress code appropriate was firmly out of his means. Even though Eddie was well aware, thanks to the local tailor(s), that Ms. Leeds had opened a tab for people to rent clothing for the event... he hadn't felt right doing so.

Maybe a single meeting during Parade Day was a poor justification, but just attending the party would give him a chance to speak with her more. He could apologize for getting killed when he should've had her back, for one thing, and find out more about her without the possible distortion of the gossip chain, for another.

Then Angel approached Eddie with a request to be his 'plus one' as offered in an official, personalized invitation from Dahlia to Angel... and Eddie attending the gala event became a certainty.

Eddie winced his way through the display of couture options -- listen, his formative years were spent in the United States in 1950s and early 1960s, there were some Very Definite ideas of masculinity that got shoved down his throat -- just absolutely not used to all the fanciness and frilliness available in menswear as well. Luckily, the shop assistant was patient, and they managed to find something appropriate yet understated.

(The darker reds, like maroon and burgundy, are some of Eddie's favorite colors to wear, and he is willing to put up with the weirdly large buttons in exchange for the shiny embroidered embellishments not taking over the entire look. And if he has to shave his legs for the tights, it's not like he's unfamiliar with the process. The things one does for bike racing...)

****

Dress code aside, a fancy party for a rich person's birthday is not unfamiliar to Eddie. Most of his experience with it has been driving celebrities to the parties of their compatriots, but Myra also has some well-off friends. When Eddie and Myra were married, he'd put in a fair number of appearances at such gatherings.

On September the 20th, Eddie took care of all his farm-related duties early in the day (including lavishing Bobbin and Thread with attention and treats so they would -- probably, maybe, hopefully -- not wander). He did all of the washing and grooming necessary to be presentable after preparing Missy for the trip to the Leeds Estate, and then set off on a leisurely pace across the island.

Eddie stops by the townhouse that Angel picked out to live in -- upon officially joining the fire brigade -- and presents him with a boutonnière of cloth flowers. The white rose buds are made of satin, and the leaf embellishments of velvet. (Being on friendly terms with the owner of a clothing shop has its perks.)

"I figured you'd like it," Eddie says to Angel, as he fastens it in place, "and it will last longer than real flowers."

Afterward, the pair swing by Grace Holloway's home since Eddie offered to give her a ride to the gala. It'll be good for Angel to have some socializing time with someone else!

[ Takes place after Eddie's death on Parade Day ]

The first thing he's aware of is a sensation of floating.

We all float down here...

Then Eddie thinks, 'I'm not supposed to be here,' and something answers him.

"No, you're not, son. But you and your friends have made a habit of doing things you aren't 'supposed to', and it'd be a shame to break the habit now."

When he opens his eyes, at first he's not even sure he has -- faced as he is with total darkness. But then there are faint pinpricks of light breaking up the dark, growing closer and larger as he floats on.

Considering that he now has something to compare it to, Eddie concludes that his first death is still the worst of what he's experienced so far. At least dying at the hellish parade on Marrow Isle hadn't involved drowning. An odd thought perhaps, but there's nothing else to do at the moment but think.

Or speak.

He looks around at the stars -- or are they stars? -- that pass all around him and inquires aloud, "Do you know about my friends? What do they remember? What's happened to them now that I'm... dead?"

"I do. Or... there is a new me who will, and we all remember such things."

Eddie gives a sigh. If he thinks about that sentence too much, he's sure his head will start hurting.

See the Turtle of enormous girth!
On his shell he holds the earth.

Character

Character Name: Edward "Eddie" Kaspbrak
Character Age: 39 [in 1985]
Canon: IT (1990 miniseries adaption)
Canon Point: ...a moment before his back got snapped by the spider-monster form of It... since, uh, that's what killed him.
CRAU (if any): N/A
• ────────── •
History: [The wiki link is juggling between three continuities, so I'm just going to give you a rundown as applies to the miniseries...]
Eddie recently returned to his hometown of Derry, Maine to fulfill a promise made between him and his six friends. Twenty-seven years ago, when they were all around the ages of twelve and thirteen, an eldritch horror stirred beneath their town and starting hunting children. Frightening them first because they "taste so much better when [they]'re afraid", the creature known only as It terrorized the children of the town and influenced the adults to never notice what was so very wrong with Derry. The seven friends who made up 'the Losers Club' banded together to fight It... and through the power of their combined belief, managed to hurt It severely. This stopped that particular reign of terror earlier than It's other rampages.

As they grew up, most of 'the Losers Club' ended up moving away from Derry, save Mike Hanlon. Each person who moved away eventually forgot what happened that fateful year of 1958 and went on to become successful in each of their chosen fields. When Mike calls upon them, informing them that It has returned, their memories are restored and nearly all of them return to Derry despite their misgivings. In Eddie's case, he breaks away from his overbearing mother and has one of his employees drive him to the airport despite her protests.

(The book shows Eddie as married to a woman named Myra who is very similar to his mother. The miniseries skips this and shows him still living with his mother. Player splits the difference and says that Eddie WAS married but had recently gotten divorced. Someone going back to their parent's home in the wake of a life change like that is not unheard of. I know he claims to still be a virgin in the miniseries, but... if you know book canon, you know...)

Eddie had recently stepped up to save Bill, Ben, and Richie from becoming lost in It's "deadlights". Looking into the deadlights for too long can force a mental break in a human being, or even outright kill them. Eddie affirmed childlike beliefs in an attempt to recall back the power they'd held against It before, and repeated a particular 'attack' against It -- to unfortunately less effect. The montrous form of It grabbed him and hoisted him into the air... but despite what happened to Eddie himself, he did save his friends. Their fury and pain at his death fueled them on to attack and kill It... hopefully, for good this time.

Personality: Eddie can be a little irritable and sarcastic, but he's got a good heart. He's a bit of a worrier, but mostly just because he cares so much about other people. He may complain, he may counsel caution, but... when the time comes to cowboy up, Eddie's at the front of the line. He'll never describe himself as brave. He sees it as doing what needs to be done. (If I had to give him a role within the group, it would actually be the Lancer to Bill's Leader, given the way he steps up during each major battle with It/Pennywise.)

Initial Game Plan: After lining up a job, Eddie will likely explore the town (politely!) to get his bearings. As a (former) business owner, he understands the importance of social capital. Since he's just come from fighting a horrible sewer beast, he'll take Yorick's warning about staying away from manholes quite seriously.

RP Interests: Friends, please! His canon heavily implied that all of his best friends will forget about him and each other, and that's just... not what this sweetheart deserves, okay? Thanks to the merry hell that fighting a dark creature played with his own memories, Eddie is still a little stuck in his anxious, fearful phase, so growing beyond that is another goal I have for him.

Preferred Job: In his home reality, Eddie runs a chauffeur service. Since cars are both very basic and rare on the island, that probably won't be viable. He'd like to try his hand at farming, and if that doesn't work out, he's willing to take a laborer position. Perhaps his experience in car maintenance can translate to general mechanics.

NSFW-friendly?: I play Eddie as figuring out that he's demisexual & biromantic. Any romance would be a slow burn, and I prefer to take NSFW off-comm to one's personal journal.
